We are committed to protecting your privacy. Gift Box is designed to work with minimal data collection — we only process what is necessary to provide you with gift recommendations and to support the free version of the app through advertising. 2 Information We Collect Gift Box collects limited information: Gift search inputs — the occasion, person description, and budget you type when generating recommendations. When processed on-device, this never leaves your phone. When processed by our backend as a fallback, it is sent securely to our server and is not stored after your session ends. Notification preferences — if you opt into push notifications, we store your preference locally on your device using standard iOS system storage. Occasion details — if you add a birthday, anniversary, or other date in the Occasions tab, that information (name, date, and occasion type) is stored locally on your device only, to schedule your reminders. App usage data — basic anonymous usage data (such as last app open date) stored locally on your device only, used solely to schedule relevant reminder notifications. Advertising identifiers — Google AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads, as described in the Advertising section below. 🛡️ We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, or any personally identifiable information. 3 How We Use Your Information The information you provide is used to: Generate personalised gift recommendations in response to your search Send optional push notifications to remind you about upcoming occasions you've added, or general reminders (only if you opt in) Display advertising through Google AdMob to help keep the app free Improve the reliability and performance of the app 4 AI-Powered Recommendations Gift Box primarily generates gift recommendations directly on your device using Apple's on-device AI (Apple Intelligence / Foundation Models), where your device and iOS version support it. In this case, no data leaves your device. If on-device AI isn't available — for example, on older devices or with Apple Intelligence turned off — your search input is sent securely to our backend server, which may forward it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate your results. This data is processed in real time, is not used to train AI models, and is not retained beyond the duration of your request. As a final fallback (for example, if you're offline or a request can't be completed), Gift Box may use a small built-in list of gift ideas stored directly in the app. No data is transmitted for this fallback. 5 Advertising Gift Box displays banner advertisements through Google AdMob to help keep the app free. AdMob and its partners may collect device identifiers (such as your device's advertising identifier) and usage data to serve and measure ads. When you first interact with your results, Gift Box will ask for your permission under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. If you decline, ads will still display but will not be personalised based on your activity in other apps. You can review Google's advertising and privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy, and manage ad tracking permissions for your device at any time in your iPhone's Settings app under Privacy & Security → Tracking. 6 Third-Party Retailer Links Gift Box displays links to third-party retailers including Amazon and eBay. When you tap Shop Now, you are directed to that retailer's website or app. These links include affiliate tracking parameters, which allow us to earn a small commission if you make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. This helps support the development of Gift Box. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party websites. We encourage you to review their individual privacy policies. 7 Push Notifications Gift Box may request permission to send you push notifications for two purposes: general reminders to help you find a gift when it may be relevant, and occasion reminders for birthdays, anniversaries, and other dates you add in the Occasions tab (sent 3 days before and on the day itself). You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your iPhone's Settings app under Notifications → Gift Box. We never send promotional or advertising notifications. 8 Data Security We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. All data transmitted between the Gift Box app and our backend server uses HTTPS encryption. Our backend server, used only as a fallback when on-device AI isn't available, is hosted on Railway and does not log or store your search inputs. Your API key and server credentials are never exposed in the app and are stored securely as environment variables on our server. 9 Children's Privacy Gift Box is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information. 10 Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
